"Every so often in the sea of folks playing and learning every instrument imaginable, a talent emerges that sets the bar for others to come. I believe Paige Anderson is one of those talents....I first learned of her Intense imagination and raw gift for playing and songwriting some years ago and she instantly became an artist that I will enjoy listening to for years to come as she flourishes and continues to set that bar for those of us around who aspire to learn more ourselves. -Chuck Ragan"
Paige Anderson & the Fearless Kin to Release New “Wild Rabbit” EP Dec. 11th
Just when you thought all was lost in American music, youth springs eternal with bluegrass flatpicking prodigy and promising young songwriter Paige Anderson and her first collection of original music entitled The “White Rabbit” EP. As the leader of her family band Anderson Family Bluegrass for going on 8 years, Paige has put skins on the wall already at 18-years-old, touring continuously on California’s bluegrass circuit, traveling on Chuck Ragan’s Revival Tour in 2009, and playing the famed Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in 2010.
Paige isn’t wandering too far from her family band roots though. She is backed on “Wild Rabbit” by her band The Fearless Kin, made up of sister Aimee on fiddle, and brother Ethan on mandolin. Even old-time family friend Chuck Ragan stops by for an appearance, singing on the haunting and crisp “Ballad of the Red River”. Homer Wills also makes an appearance on harmonica.
Wild Rabbit is a remarkable collection of songs that illustrate all of Paige Anderson’s singular talents, including her solitary prowess as a female flatpicking guitar player; an attribute that has landed her numerous features in Flatpicking Guitar magazine and other periodicals. But her voice is what threatens to steal the spotlight, with its inherent conveyance of pain in a tone that is both youthful and old, wildly unique and undeniably accessible.
“Wild Rabbit” displays an uncanny adeptness of songwriting and arrangement beyond the formative age of the players, and conveys hope by forming a nexus between youthful appeal and artistic value. Its foundation is bluegrass, but Paige Anderson’s wise compositions draw influences from folk, country, indie rock, and roots music in an amalgam that is fiercely original.
Grab hold of “Wild Rabbit” and hold on tight, because Paige Anderson and The Fearless Kin are destined to take off in music.
